A Clackamas County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed someone during a traffic stop early Monday, according to the agency.
Deputies said they tried to take a “suspect” into custody about 2 a.m. after a traffic stop near Southeast 145th Avenue and Southeast King Road in Happy Valley. They released no information about why they described the person as a suspect.
“A struggle ensued” and a deputy shot the person, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The person died at the scene, sheriff’s officials said. A handgun was recovered near the person, they said.
The Sheriff’s Office hasn’t released the name of the person who was killed and didn’t immediately respond to questions about the shooting.
Investigators led by the Clackamas County Major Crimes Team and Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office are working to reconstruct details leading up to the traffic stop and the shooting, the Sheriff’s Office said.
