After a lousy spring filled with cold temperatures and plenty of rain and snow, it seems as if Mother Nature is finally delivering our meteorological reward.
The start of the final full week of spring — the summer solstice is less than two weeks away, on June 20 — will be nothing short of perfection. Brilliant sunny skies and comfortable temperatures will take over throughout Boston and southeastern New England starting in earnest on Monday. From there, most of the week appears to feature ideal weather for any sort of outdoor activity.
Temperatures will top out in the 70s on Monday and Tuesday before a gradual warm up returns readings back into more summer-like 80s by the end of the week, and with it, some returned chance of rain and storm.
The start of the week, though, will feature the best overall weather across the area: highs will be in the mid-70s on Monday under a near-cloudless sky, while temperatures will tick back up to near 80 degrees on Tuesday with continued sunshine.
By Wednesday, though, the heat and frizzy hair weather begin to return. A more southerly component to the wind direction will bring in rising temperatures (expect a high around 85 on Wednesday, specifically), and increased dew points — a measure of the amount of moisture in the atmosphere. That said, Wednesday looks mainly dry.
It’s not until Thursday that a chance of rain starts to tick back up. The area of high pressure safeguarding New England from rain will scoot offshore, allowing a cold front to work its way in from the west. With plenty of heat and humidity in place, that could trigger some stronger storms on Thursday.
Friday and Saturday look stormy and steamy, with summer-like humidity and highs around 80 degrees. Both days will feature at least a chance for storms as well, with more clouds than sun looking likely. Neither day, though, looks like a washout at this point.
Boston’s average high for mid-June is in the mid-70s, making this week still generally a tick warmer than average on the whole, particularly by the end of it.
Next week also appears to trend cooler and maybe drier as well, an indication that this current pattern could stick around deep into June.
Gusty storms on Saturday afternoon offered a bit of a loud goodbye to the heat and humidity we’d seen much of last week. Four straight days of 80-plus heat came to a crashing end with the front. Following a cloudy and unsettled Sunday, there’s plenty of pleasant weather to enjoy before a more uncertain end to the work week.
