Traffic stop yields drug arrest – Examiner Online - Bellefontaine Examiner

A suspended driver was arrested Wednesday on multiple felony charges following a traffic stop on State Route 235 near County Road 24.
The Washington Township Police Department reports that Phillip Schmidt, 46, of Celina, was driving a white Chevrolet vehicle around 4 p.m.,, but the registration returned to a blue Dodge pickup.
Schmidt pulled into a private residential driveway, and a patrolling officer sat across the roadway waiting for the vehicle to pull back out into the roadway.
The female homeowner arrived home and expressed concern about the pickup, and officers pulled into the drive and intitiated a traffic stop. When the officer approached the pickup, he noticed a scale near the vehicle.
A baggie of methamphetamine weighing approximately 1.22 grams was found inside the scale. Schmidt told officers that he was not a valid driver.
When asked, Schmidt advised officers about marijuana inside the vehicle. Authorities searched the pickup and found a marijuana cigarette. Schmidt admitted the scale and meth belonged to him.
He also told police that he had placed items in the door panel of his vehicle, and officers located a black bag that contained various drug paraphernalia items.
Schmidt was charged with felony counts of possession of drugs and tampering with evidence.
He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, no driver’s license, and driving under suspension, and waslodged in the Logan County Jail
