The Denver Police Department is investigating a social media post on a now-deleted Instagram account that showed three officers in riot gear and a comment seeming to glorifying violence.

The handle on the account was “tommymclay.” A comment from the account owner under photos of the three men in body armor states, “Let’s start a riot.” DPD has placed Thomas J. McClay, who joined DPD in 2019 according to a Facebook post, in a position that keeps him out of the field, according to a DPD spokesman

The department tweeted this Monday afternoon: “ALERT: Regarding the Instagram post featuring 3 DPD officers posing in riot gear — The Chief has ordered an Internal Affairs investigation into the matter. All investigations are closely monitored by the Office of the Independent Monitor.”
