NFLPA to players: Stop working out together - Houston Chronicle

The NFL Players Association medical director delivered some stern advice to all NFL players Saturday afternoon.

Dr. Thom Mayer advised all players in an email to stop working out together due to concerns about rising COVID-19 positive tests throughout the nation.

The Texans, San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, including former Texans defensive back Kareem Jackson and outside linebacker Von Miller, Dallas Cowboys, including running back Ezekiel Elliott, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Los Angeles Rams, including center Brian Allen, have all had positive tests for COVID-19 for players and/or staff members.

Several teams, including the Texans, 49ers, Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers and the Buffalo Bills, have organized informal private workouts that included throwing sessions or lineman drills.

“Please be advised that it is our consensus medical opinion that in light of the increase in COVID-19 cases in certain states that no players should be engaged in practicing together in private workouts,” Mayer wrote in an email to players. “Our goal is to have all players and your families as healthy as possible in the coming months.

“We are working on the best mitigation procedures at team facilities for both training camps and the upcoming season, and believe that it is in the best interest of all players that we advise against any voluntary joint practices before training camp commences.”
