FORT WAYNE, Ind. (FORT WAYNE'S NBC) - A local organization came together to demand action Saturday nearly 16 months after the murder of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis Police.
Dozens gathered for the 2nd annual 'Bike Ride for Black Lives,' which was organized by the group Fighting for Injustice and Racial Matters.
"For us, it's been a busy year," FIRM founder Dezha Lattimore said. "It didn't stop after the protests died down, not just in the city, but also the country."
The distance of the ride was 8 miles, representing the more than 8 minutes former police officer Derek Chauvin had his knee on George Floyd's neck.
The route began at Tillman Park, made its way to Foster Park and then back to Tillman.
Organizers said the goal was to bring people out no matter their race or age.
"Police in America are now being held more accountable for their actions," Bijay Stephen said. "They're getting away with less things, but that doesn't mean that the problem is gone."
The group plans to hold this event again in 2022.
