NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio –

Failure to comply: Lorain Road

A woman is charged with failure to comply and numerous traffic citations after attempting to leave a traffic stop and crashing her car.

An officer at 10:50 p.m. Nov. 12 tried to stop a black Volvo on Lorain Road. The car pulled into a Sunoco gas station lot. As the officer exited his cruiser to approach the car, the woman’s car sped off, striking a pole guarding the gas pumps in the gas station parking lot. The officer followed the woman’s car, as the driver committed numerous traffic violations including driving through a red light, according to a police report.

The woman then drove southbound on Clague Road and lost control of her car near the I-480 overpass, spinning, striking a construction sign, and coming to rest with all four tires off to the right side of the road.

After backup officers arrived, the woman and her male passenger were ordered out of the car.

The woman told police she fled the traffic stop because she did not have a driver’s license and was afraid her car would be towed. Police also discovered the male passenger in her car had an active warrant from the Cleveland Police Department for his arrest, according to a police report.

North Olmsted police have requested a warrant for the woman on a charge of failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, a misdemeanor. In addition, police cited her for driving without a license, failing to obey a traffic control device, speeding, and driving with an expired license plate.

Theft: Brookpark Road

A police officer at 6 p.m. Nov. 15 responded to Walmart regarding two suspected shoplifters who were being held.

A loss prevention employee told the officer that he witnessed the male suspects going through a self-checkout register and not scanning all the items in their cart. Another Walmart employee approached the men and told them to make sure everything was scanned and paid for before they left.

The men finished scanning items and then began leaving the store, but some items toward the bottom of the cart had not been scanned and paid for, according to a police report. The loss prevention officer prevented the men from leaving the store.

The suspects admitted to the theft of merchandise, according to a police report.

The items taken included candy, pop, beef, and onion dip. The total value of the unpaid-for merchandise came to more than $50, according to a police report.  Both men are charged with petty theft, according to the police.
