SEAFORD — A 38-year-old Seaford woman was charged with firearms and narcotic offenses Thursday during a traffic stop for an unregistered vehicle, Seaford Deputy Police Chief Michael Rapa said.

According to authorities, Amy Hignutt was driving a vehicle not displaying a license plate when she was stopped on Middleford Road at approximately 1:38 p.m. She told police she had applied for registration with the Alabama Department of Motor Vehicles and presented a driver’s license and pistol permit from that state, Deputy Chief Rapa said.

Ms. Hignutt told police there were firearms in the vehicle but could not recall the location, he said. She also said she had recently purchased a home and moved to Delaware.

An investigation revealed that the pistol permit expired upon establishing an out-of-state residence, Deputy Chief Rapa said.

Also found in the vehicle were two loaded handguns and a clear bag containing suspected crystal meth, police said.

Ms. Hignutt was charged with carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a deadly weapon while possessing a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and motor vehicle charges. She was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on $12,800 unsecured bail.
