BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Delray Beach woman is facing a weapons charge after being in a vehicle stopped for speeding on Yamato Road. Yannie Devin is officially charged with “carrying a concealed weapon” which was “unlicensed” according to Boca Raton Police.
This is the narrative provided to BocaNewsNow.com of Devin’s arrest:
On March 14, 2022, at 2230 hours, I observed a gray 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe bearing Florida license plate CNXT79 traveling 60 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone in the outside lane. I initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle at 500 W Yamato Road, Boca Raton, Florida. Upon approach of the passenger side of the vehicle, I could smell a faint smell of burnt marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Ofc. Maguire and Ofc. Castillo arrived on scene and Ofc. Maguire also approached the passenger side of the vehicle. Ofc. Maguire also advised that he smelled the odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the vehicle.
Based on the burnt marijuana smell, I had the driver, W/M Chase Barnett step out of the vehicle. W/F Devin Yannie was the front passenger of the vehicle and W/M Logan Yannie was the rear driver-side passenger. Chase has a valid medical marijuana card holder and has a valid medical marijuana card. I searched Chase and he did not have any contraband. I then had Logan step out of the vehicle and searched him, which he had no contraband. While searching Chase and Logan, Ofc. Desiderato arrived on scene and began speaking with Devin. Ofc. Desiderato informed me of the following: Devin became nervous while speaking to him and observed what appeared to be the grip of a firearm concealed under Devin’s right foot on the floorboard of the vehicle.
Ofc. Desiderato asked if he could speak to her with the door open and she stated “yes.” After Ofc. Desiderato opened the door, he observed a semi-automatic Glock 23 .40 caliber firearm (Serial number NMX492) underneath her right foot in a cloth holster, which was concealed about her person. Ofc. Desiderato stated that Devin was attempting to conceal the firearm by using her foot and he had to ask her to lift her leg to show the full firearm. Ofc. Desiderato then had Devin step out of the vehicle. Ofc. Vrabel secured the firearm and advised the Glock had a loaded 13 round magazine with 12 .40-caliber rounds in the magazine with one .40 caliber round in the chamber of the firearm. Ofc. Vrabel ran the firearm through our dispatch center and they advised the firearm was not stolen. I then read Devin her constitutional warnings from my department-issued Miranda
card and she stated she understood her rights. Post Miranda Devin stated she does not have a concealed carry permit and she knew she was not supposed to be in concealed possession of the firearm. She advised she is not a convicted felon, has never been charged with a felony, and has only had one prior misdemeanor charge.
I then placed Devin into handcuffs (Double-locked and checked for finger gap) and informed her she was under arrest for unlicensed carrying of a concealed firearm. Based on the findings of my investigation, Devin Yannie is being charged with 1 count of F.S.S. 790.01 (2) unlicensed carry of a concealed firearm. Devin was taken to the Boca Raton Police Department for processing and later turned over to Palm Beach County Jail.
Devin was ultimately released on $3,000 bond. A court date is pending. She lists the 2200 block of Spring Harbor Drive in Delray Beach as her home address.
