Just one day after a sizable recall for failing windshield wiper motors, Hyundai is issuing yet another recall for the Palisade three-row SUV, this time joined by a population of the related Kia Telluride over the threat of a fire with the tow hitch harness.

More than 245,000 model-year 2020-22 Palisades and 36,400 Telluride SUVs are affected, all potentially equipped with a tow hitch harness installed as original equipment or purchased as an accessory through a dealership. Debris and moisture accumulation on the tow hitch harness module’s printed circuit board may cause an electrical short regardless of whether or not the vehicle is parked or even on, increasing the risk of a fire and injury.
Though a final remedy is still to come, dealers will inspect the tow hitch module and remove the fuse, as necessary, in the interim. All repairs will be done for free, but owners are encouraged to park outside and away from any structures until they’re complete. The automakers have also issued a stop-sale for affected SUVs still on dealership lots.
