New York Jets star Jamal Adams issued a statement Monday night, reacting to the murder of George Floyd and the continuing protests and unrest throughout the country.

"It's disgusting that we don't have time to deal with our trauma before the next tragedy," Adams, who is black, wrote in a statement shared on social media. "We can't let these conversations die and cant' forget those we've lost. Stop killing us. This isn't just a political issue, this is about the morality of our nation. We all have a part to play!"

Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, was killed in Minneapolis police custody on May 25. A video showed Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on Floyd's neck for more than eight minutes, despite Floyd's pleas, before he lost consciousness, that he could not breathe.

Chauvin was fired and charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. The other three officers involved in the arrest were also fired but have not been charged.

Protesters have been gathering across the country since Floyd's death calling for a stop to police violence against black people. Some were peaceful, but many have turned violent.

Adams noted the biggest reason for the widespread frustration, pain and anger: Floyd's murder was just the latest in a string of similar tragedies.

"Over the past few days, I've been struggling with the pain from daily injustices in America," Adams wrote on Twitter. "It's something new every day! I think it is important to find your peace in all of this and remember self-care and positive energy. My heart goes out to the family of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery. They're more than just hashtags."

Taylor, a black 26-year-old ER technician, was shot to death by Louisville police on March 13 in her own home. She was struck at least eight times in the early morning hours when police, entering the apartment with a battering ram on a 'no knock' search warrant, returned fire after an officer was shot. The officers that returned fire have been placed on administrative leave.

Arbery, a black 25-year-old, was murdered on Feb. 23 in Brunswick, Georgia, after being chased and confronted by a white father and son while jogging.

Former police officer Greg McMichael, 64, and son Travis McMichael, 34, said they suspected Arbery had been stealing in the neighborhood and shot him after a struggle for the weapon. However, in early May a video of the shooting emerged showing that the McMichaels were waiting in the middle of the street for Arbery and armed in the moments before the fatal confrontation.

On May 7, two days after the video emerged, and more than two months after Arbery's murder, the both were arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault. Two weeks later the man who filmed the shooting was also arrested for felony murder.
