In the KQEN Cultural Spotlight:

As restrictions are beginning to lift, Umpqua Actors Community Theatre is excited to start live theatre again.

Executive Director Melody Schwegel said the organization is planning to put together smaller shows to accommodate a smaller venue. Schwegel said in Phase 2, they are allowed to have 50 people in their auditorium, but with social distancing the numbers will be cut significantly to accommodate 6 feet between parties.

Smaller group shows will include one person and small group musicals, reviews and performances, along with staged readings. Schwegel said UACT is extremely limited to what types of shows they can produce, as social distancing also applies to their actors on stage, but she is certain those attending will be entertained by what they have in store.

Ticket sales are now open for the first of their mini productions starting with a one-woman musical review titled: “The Bright Lights of Broadway”, starring Ashley Chitwood. Chitwood played Mrs. Potts in last summer’s Beauty and the Beast. The production will be a two-week run, with performances Thursday through Saturdays at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m. between June 18th and June 28th. Since the UACT online ticketing system cannot accommodate or anticipate social distancing, all ticket sales will be handled in the UACT box office. This means seats will be assigned based on the number of people in a party. Tickets will be held at will call and will include section, row and seat number.

All tickets are $15 and can be purchased by calling 673-2125.
