On March 15, 2021, at 9:06 a.m., La Porte County Sheriff’s Deputy Jon Samuelson was in the 7000 east block of Ind. 2 monitoring westbound traffic when he saw a car following another vehicle too closely. He also saw the car abruptly move from the driving lane to the passing lane.
Samuelson initiated a traffic stop in the 6000 east block of Ind. 2. The driver was identified as Jermaine Young, 37, of Harvey, Ill. The passenger was identified as Chelsey L. Smith, 26, of Anderson, Ind.

Smith
Samuelson deployed his K-9 partner, Bosco, to sniff around the exterior of the vehicle. Bosco provided a positive alert to the presence of the odor of narcotics in the vehicle. A subsequent search yielded illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Bosco
Assisting Deputy Josh Smith transported Young to the La Porte County Jail. Young was subsequently arrested for Dealing in Methamphetamine, a Level 2 Felony, and was being held on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
Smith was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Syringe, a Level 6 Felony, and was being held in La Porte County Jail on a $755 cash-only bond.
