FORT MYERS, Fla.– A man led authorities on a chase to downtown Fort Myers after hitting a deputy with his car during a traffic stop.
Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Pondella Road in North Fort Myers on Thursday.
A driver, later identified as Victor Rivera Ortiz, 36, refused to listen to law enforcement’s instructions, allegedly knocking an LCSO deputy to the ground.
While driving away from the area, the man allegedly tried to run over a deputy with his car. It is unknown if the deputy was injured.
Law enforcement chased him to the downtown Fort Myers area, where they were able to take Ortiz into custody.
LCSO has since learned that Ortiz is on federal probation out of Puerto Rico for trafficking cocaine.
At this time Ortiz is facing charges of Battery on LEO, Fleeing and Eluding, and Aggravated Assault with a Vehicle. Additional charges might be added, according to authorities.
