REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The report filed by the Independent Indonesian People's Union (SIRI) against President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) about the Russian propaganda statement was rejected by the Criminal Investigation Agency of National Police (Bareskrim Polri). According to Bareskrim, the report needed to be consulted first with the Cyber Crime Unit in order to find out which articles to be applied against Jokowi.
"He said the report must be consulted first with cyber crime unit. The police do not seem ready (to process this case)," said General Chairman of SIRI, Hasan Basri at the National Police Headquarter, in Jakarta, on Thursday (Feb 6).
Hasan explained that SIRI reported President Jokowi because the statement about existance of a campaign team that prepared Russian propaganda on February 2, 2019 in East Java have caused a commotion in the community. For this reason, after consulting with regard to the right article, he will return to the integrated police service center of National Police to report the president.
Previously, Election Watch Advocates also reported Jokowi to the Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) in Jakarta on Wednesday (Feb 6), due to Russian propaganda statement. The statement allegedly violated the provisions of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections Article 280 Paragraph (1) letters c and d in conjunction with Article 521.
Meanwhile, Jokowi explained that hedid not refer to Russia as a country when mentioning the term of Russian propaganda. The terminology of Russian propaganda was mentioned in an article issued by Rand Corporation, a US political consultant institute, in 2016, he said.
The Russian propaganda means a technique of firehose of falsehood, according to Rand Corporation. A firehose of falsehood, lies and hoaxes could affect and create uncertainty, Jokowi said.
